I’m Lori—teacher, professional costume and fashion designer, and visual artist. I’ve been teaching people of all ages to sew for almost 20 years!

Basic Sewing Techniques

Intermediate machine and hand sewing including buttonholes as well as commercial pattern use and garment construction

Intermediate Sewing Techniques

Can be anything from embroidery techniques to visible mending, cord making, reverse applique, specialty garment techniques, block and screen printing, and more!

Textile Crafts

Instruction and guidance for specific projects and skills—sewing, patterning, alterations, etc.

Introduction to Hand Embroidery - Saturday July 25 10am-3pm
$65.00

Learn the tools, materials and basic stitching techniques for hand embroidery in this beginner workshop. We’ll also explore how these techniques can be used to create “visible mending” on worn clothing. All materials, tools and equipment will be provided, however if you have a pair of “holey” jeans or similar that need mending, bring them along!

Sashiko Workshop - Saturday, August 22 10am-3pm

Learn one stitch and open the possibility of an infinite variety of patterns in Sashiko, which means “little stabs” in Japanese. Sashiko was traditionally used for mending clothing decoratively. We’ll create an 8” X 8” panel in a design of your choice, but you can bring something that needs to be mended to work on as well! All tools and materials for your panel will be provided for use during class. Please bring lunch or a snack to enjoy during our mid-workshop break.

Intro to Sewing for Beginners - August 24-28 5:30-8:30pm nightly

August 24 - 28 nightly 5:30-8:30pm

This course will each you how to sew by hand with needle and thread as well as safely operate a sewing machine. Everything will be provided for you to use in this class, including a sewing machine (but you are welcome to bring your own machine if you have one!) Learn how to use a sewing pattern, how to lay out fabric and cut with the grain, and how to use your sewing machine and hand sewing skills to complete your project, a reversible, Japanese-style knot bag.
